Review: METALLICA Dress Rehearsal Features EMMA THOMPSON On Drums

Jim Harrington of the Alameda Times-Star has "reviewed" Friday's (Feb. 27) dress rehearsal performance for METALLICA's lengthy national tour, which kicked off last night in Phoenix.

"Although the performance was every bit as good as what will be witnessed across the country, a few intimate moments helped separate the occasion from just another night on the road," he wrote.

"At one point, a security guard gave a young fan a pair of drumsticks. Four-year-old Emma Thompson of San Leandro then sat on her dad's shoulders and beat along to the music.

"Noticing the young girl's handiwork, [METALLICA drummer Lars] Ulrich invited her to take his spot on drums. She certainly wasn't shy about it. With no formal training to aid her, just a natural sense of rhythm, Emma pulled off a great drum solo leading into 'Dirty Window'. She was still swinging the sticks as she was lifted off the throne."
